X Ways to Green Your Camping Trip

Camping is a chance to reset both your mind and body for a lot of time or even just for a couple of days. For others, the idea of living outside the realm of indoor plumbing, electricity, and wifi.  It can be pretty nice, but the wilderness can sometimes be dangerous, and you should always be careful. Camping stuff that you see in stores actually is a bunch of junk, and it defeats the purpose of living out in the nature, and many times, it ends up being tossed away, filling our landfills up.  If you’re planning a weekend stay somewhere, whether it be a national park or a backpacking trip, there are a few tips for making your camping trip cleaner.

Natural Sunscreen and Bugspray

Camping is fun, but the bugs are not.  You also don’t want to get a sunburn either.  You may wonder whether or not you should use some of those sunscreens loaded with chemicals but don’t. they’re toxic to pretty much everything in the area, and you should look for either safer, organic alternatives, or even just make your own natural sunscreen.

Solar Lantern and Chargers

It can be hard going green with the light, but the best way to go green in this area is to well, consider the battery-less alternatives. that’s because batteries can often create toxicity in landfills and they’re rarely properly disposed of. Plus, it takes up a lot of space in your backpack or other camping luggage, and do you really want that? Well, why not get a lighting option that runs on solar power? that’s one of the best alternatives to this, and it’s ultimately one of the best ways to really go green in this type of atmosphere. Lots of people don’t realize that this one step can make it a whole lot better.

Filter your Water

People don’t realize that a filter water bottle or filtration system is the ultimate alternative to carrying a bunch of water bottles. First and foremost, those have to be recycled, and unless you’re carrying a recycle bin on you, that’s probably not happening. Plus, it takes up a lot of space in your bags, and if you’re near a lake or water source, you can use a water filtration system to get water from there, so you’re not having to lug around a ton of water bottles. Plus, in the event that you do get stuck anywhere, you’ll definitely want to make sure that you have this.  That way, it can prevent the worst from happening, especially if you get stranded, and it’s a great eco-friendly way to actually go green when outside camping.

Leve the Gadgets at Home

While it might be hard to live without your computer, you probably won’t need your battery or electrical-powered items. If you have an air mattress that needs to be inflated, bring a foot pump. Instead of a radio or DVD player, embrace nature or read a book.  You will have a much lighter backpack, that’s for sure. The only exception to this is a cell phone, which can be used in the event of an emergency, but some places don’t even have a good signal, so it may not be the most ideal thing to have on hand when you’re out camping, that’s for sure.

The Reusables Rule

Pitching a tent doesn’t mean that you should throw all of the eco-friendly habits that you have before.  For many people, they think that while yeah, they may bring a hand-powered flashlight, or even just a natural bug spray, they can then spend a bunch of money on cups, napkins, towels, and plates.  One of the best things you can do to go green when you’re out camping is to put together the reusables rule, which means that you bring reusable cutlery to use. For example, you can get some unbreakable and washable versions of everything, such as plastic cups, and also a small bucket, sponge, some biodegradable  type of soap, and an extra to take the old napkins and towels that get too grimy to use again.  You can also handwash all of your napkins and such too. It will save you not just a ton of space, but also save you a boatload of money too on this type of stuff that you need for camping.

Know how to Use the Bathroom

This might be a bit gross, but many people don’t know how to dispose of human waste when they’re out camping. If you’re at a campground that’s established, chances are there’s an outhouse or a composting area nearby. If you’re in the wilderness though, you probably won’t have that luxury.  you’ll want to bring your own toilet paper to begin and be 200 feet away from any water resources or campsites, and from there, you dig a hole about six inches deep, covering it back up when you’re done.  You also may need to bring a paper bag to dispose of the toilet paper, and never leave it in the woods.

Leave only Footprints and Only Take Pictures

the biggest thing to remember when going green is that nobody should know you’ve been there once you’re done, so no litter, no fire pits, no grass ripped up no boulders crushed or re-positioned, and you should always make sure that you stay on the trail there, never pick the plants that are there, nor the flowers or berries, and never harm or disturb the wildlife, whether or not they are endangered. You want to be respectful of the locale, because it may not always be there, so you’ll want to always be mindful.

When camping, going green is the way to go, and hee, we’ve tapped into some of the ways to do it, and why they matter. You should always be mindful of this, and make sure that you take the time to properly understand not only the different ways to go green but ways to preserve the land in a rightful manner.
